Over the centuries the people of the former Yugoslavia have been in a state of continuous rivalry and even hatred, which has quite often broken out in open warfare against each other, resulting in the deaths of thousands upon thousands of innocent people.

The Spilling of Innocent Blood

The animosity, if not even hatred, at present, may not be as overt as it has been in the past, but nevertheless it is still there, and sooner or later, it is bound to break out into open warfare again.

History tells us, that if we do not learn the lessons from
the past, it will without fail repeat itself again.

The Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt has said:” The only remedy for the inevitability of history is forgiveness; otherwise we remain trapped in the predicament of inevitability”

The Bible Is Very Explicit With Relation To The Curse That
The Spilling Of Brotherly Blood Carries.

Starting with Genesis 4:10-12

And he said, What have you done? the voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the earth. And now you are cursed from the earth, whose mouth is open to take your brother's blood from your hand; No longer will the earth give you her fruit as the reward of your work.

And then in Gen 9:5

and from every man will I take payment for the blood of his brother-man.

The Word of God warns against the making of the land unholy:

Numbers 35:34-5

So do not make the land where you are living unholy: for blood makes the land unholy... Do not make unclean the land where you are living ...

We may come together and pray for our church, city, district or nation, but God will not hear:

Isaiah 1:15

And when your hands are stretched out to me, my eyes will be turned away from you: even though you go on making prayers, I will not give ear: your hands are full of blood.

What Can We Christians Do?
We Can Humble Ourselves And Pray:

Have mercy, O Lord, on your people .... whom you have made free, and take away from your people the crime of a death without cause. Deut 21:8

I believe that in order for the curse of blood-guiltiness to be lifted and for God’s blessing to come upon this land, there is a need for a gathering of spiritual, and secular leaders, from all ethnic backgrounds as well as God’s people in general, to come and seek God’s forgiveness, for the shedding of innocent blood.

It is only by humbly asking for God’s forgiveness as well as each other’s and a genuine desire for mutual reconciliation that I believe, that God will lift the curse as well as free the land from the present spiritual oppression.

Then and only then will God open His hand of blessing and allow past history to remain in the past, never to be repeated again. For as the Bible tells us, God commands a blessing where there is unity.
